Sometimes, the best nights are the ones you spend in with your flatmates or coursemates. Forget going out, here’s how you can host a brilliant night in with minimal fuss (and money) and maximum fun.
1. Set the scene with the right atmosphere/vibe
You don’t need a fancy set-up, just a comfy space to hang out. Throw some cushions on the floor, dim the lights, and put on your favourite playlist in the background. You could even grab some battery-powered fairy lights if you're feeling extra fancy. It’s all about creating the right vibe for what you plan on doing.
2. Snacks, snacks, and more snacks
What’s a night in without food? You can keep it simple or go all out. Either way, it’s about having a selection to snack on while you chat, play games, or watch something. Just make sure to check in with who you're inviting to find out what they want/any dietary requirements.
3. Pick the perfect movie or show
This one’s always tricky, everyone has different tastes. Again, communication is key and we'd recommend deciding as a group what you want to watch beforehand. You can watch something light and funny, or get into a thrilling series you’ve all been meaning to check out and make it a weekly thing. If you're struggling with options, consider a theme e.g. 90s classics, scary movies, or an entire season of The Office.
4. Board games or video games?
You can't go wrong with a classic board game. Whether it's Monopoly, Catan, or Cards Against Humanity, board games are an easy way to get everyone involved. If board games aren't your thing, how about a few rounds of Mario Kart? Multiplayer games are perfect for friendly competition, just make sure all controllers are charged beforehand.
5. Make it a BYO theme night
If you're looking to spice things up a bit, you could add a fun twist. Get everyone to bring their own snacks, or even make it a “DIY pizza” night where everyone tops their own slice. Or, try a “Bring Your Own Drink” theme, where everyone brings their favourite drink to share. You can even dress up if you’ve got the energy for a more extravagant night in.
6. Get creative with a craft or DIY project
If your flatmates (or friends) are feeling arty, why not try something crafty? You could work on a group project together, paint canvases, or even create a custom playlist together. It’s a fun and chilled-out way to spend time while chatting and having a laugh.
7. Chill and chat
Sometimes, you don’t need much else. A good night in can be about having a proper catch-up. Get the snacks out, sit back, and just talk about everything. University life, favourite music, plans for the future, you name it. It's about bonding and making memories with the people around you.
Bonus tip: Keep it low-key
One of the best things about a night in is that you don’t have to spend much money or make big plans. It’s the small moments that make the biggest impacts and these are usually the best with a close group of friends.
