Relaxation tips in halls

Posted 20 hours ago

Does your brain feel like it has too many tabs open?

Deadlines and exams are on the horizon, and we can imagine the stress might be building up. Here are some ways you can relax in halls to prevent any anxieties and stresses that might occur:

Make time for the things you enjoy ๐ŸŽจ

It can be very easy to bury yourself in a study pit and forget about relaxing and the things you enjoy. To avoid this, take a minute to think about what activities and hobbies you like. This could be as simple as colouring, walking, playing an instrument, etc, and set aside an hour every evening to do this.

Even better, why not try a new hobby? Write a list of new things you want to try, no matter how big or small. Learning something new is a great way of giving your mind something to focus on, as well as feeling a sense of accomplishment once achieved.

Attend a halls event ๐ŸŽ‰

Every month, your hall will be hosting some events - whether it's freebies, crafting or more! They're a great way to get out of your room for a bit, chat to the halls team about anything you're struggling with, or relating to other residents who are in the exact same  boat as you, all while having a bit of fun.

Exercise (or get outside) ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ

Increase those endorphines! To some, exercise might seem like the last thing you want to do to relax, but even if you just walk to a local park, lie down on the grass and watch the clouds go by, that's more than enough. And if you want to have some active time, check out these running routes near you.

Comfort food ๐Ÿฅ˜

One of the best de-stressing hacks is making a comfort meal. It warms your soul and satisfies you, immediately relieving stress. Whether it reminds you of home, a moment from your childhood, or it may be the first dish you made yourself, the comfort meals work like magic. If your stress is causing burnout, this will also help you get out of your room for a bit with a walk to the shops to get your food and then cooking in the kitchen.

Tidy your room ๐Ÿงน

We're not saying you need to go all Monica Geller and deep-clean your bedroom and communal spaces, but if you've got anything lying about that's making you feel "ugh", then start to tidy bit by bit. You'll have heard it before, but a tidy room (does in fact) = a tidy mind.

Tip: If you don't know where to start with tidying, a good trick is to pick up everything off the floor and put it on your bed. Then take one thing at a time and put it back in its original spot (or if it's laundry, put it in the washing).

Sensory reset ๐Ÿšฟ

It's time for an everything shower. Wash away the stress and treat yourself to some fresh-smelling shower products. Sometimes people might forget that stress isn't just a feeling; it's a physical sensation that has many effects on your body. Taking a shower can feel like a reset button, and the clean, refreshed feeling afterwards is pure gold. Warm water actually increases blood flow, which helps loosen tense muscles and relieve physical fatigue, ultimately creating the perfect relaxer.
