Don't forget the clocks go forward!

Posted 3 hours ago

Say hello to spring!

It's that time of the year again, and Spring knows how to make an entrance and moves the clocks forward on the 29 March. The days get longer and brighter - a big serotonin boost!

Why do we change the clocks?

The clocks change due to Daylight Saving Time (DST), a way of making the most of daylight. It means you can spend more time outside and not have to come out of lectures, and feel like the days are already gone.

How will this affect you?

Unfortunately, due to the clocks going forward, you will lose an hour of sleep. So, if you wake up a bit cranky the next day, that will be why. We suggest altering your sleep pattern the week before the clocks change by 15 minutes each night. This can help your body adjust a lot better to the hour loss instead of jumping a whole hour in one night.

Later sunset

On a much brighter note (literally), the sun won't set until later! We get to look forward to the lighter evenings and longer daytimes, which means more time to see friends and more time to study - in the sun, especially.

Getting used to light mornings

It'll be lighter when you wake up, which can be a bit annoying if you like a lie-in at the weekend, but if you have an early morning lecture, it might actually help you wake up.

Your tech will take care of things

You don't have to worry about changing your phone or laptop clocks as they will update automatically, but if you have any battery-powered or old-school clocks around, you'll have to change them manually.

When do the clocks go back again?

The clocks go back again on 25th October, and the days will be shorter, but we will gain that extra hour of sleep back! Until then, though, we are in "spring mode".

The clocks going forward is a sign that summer is coming, with later nights and warmer mornings. It's an ideal time to adjust your daily schedule and get into a good sleep routine.
