Easy ways to brighten up someone's day

It's Random Acts of Kindness Day! Today is all about spreading positivity and making small gestures to be kinder, however we believe it shouldn't just be dedicated to one day, spreading good vibes should be a daily habit.

Here are some easy ways to put a smile on someone's face:

1. Make a cuppa for your flatmate

Nothing is cosier than a hot drink made for just for you, just the way you like it. If you're making a cup of tea or coffee for yourself, why not offer to make one for your flatmate too? It's such a simple but thoughtful act that is sure to make them feel appreciated.

2. Hold the door open

A classic act of kindness that takes zero effort. Whether you're coming back from a lecture or just heading out, holding the door open for someone shows consideration and good manners.

3. Offer to take out the bins

No one enjoys bin duty, but if you notice that it's full and needs emptying, take one for the team and do it without being asked.

4. Leave a positive note

A little encouragement goes long way! Whether it's a sticky note on the fridge with a motivational message or a funny doodle you've put on their pinboard, this is such a cute surprise that can boost someone's mood instantly.

5. Bake something to share

Got a bit of spare time? Bake some easy cookies, brownies or cupcakes to leave in the communal kitchen for everyone to tuck into. Get started with our easy baking recipes!

It's a delicious way to bring people together and sweeten up their day - especially if they've been so busy recently.

6. Check in on someone

University life can be overwhelming at times. If a flatmate or friend has been quiet or distant lately, ask how they're doing and let them know you're there if they need to talk. A simple 'How's your day going?' can mean a lot.

7. Be patient and understanding

Everyone has bad days. If your flatmate forgets to clean up after themselves or your bestie has been in a mood, instead of getting frustrated, offer understanding. Treat them how you would want to be treated, avoid escalating the situation.

Being kind doesn't take much, but it can have a lasting impact.
