Being a foodie while living in London as a student can be a challenge. With high restaurant prices and food shopping bills stacking up, it sometimes seems impossible to eat well without breaking the bank. Here are some of our top tips for enjoying food in London without overspending:
TimeOut and FirstTable 🍜
If you like eating out but hate high prices, TimeOut and FirstTable are both game changers:
FirstTable - offers 50% off meals at London restaurants when you book the first or last table of the evening - usually around 5pm or 9pm. All you have to do is sign up, browse restaurants near you, and book a slot for a small fee (typically about £5). Just like that, you get half-price dining!
TimeOut - offers weekly food offers and discounts on great restaurants across London. A recent offer included an authentic Japanese lunch and a free tote at Sanjugo for £9.99, which is only a 10-minute walk for those who live at Don Gratton House.
UNiDAYS, as well as StudentBeans, both offer many discounts across London restaurants/shops, and are a great way to save extra money.
Honest Burgers 🍔
Honest Burgers offer 20% student discount off the total bill (food & drink) from Thursday to Sunday. Just show your student ID or StudentBeans ID at the counter, and they'll take care of the rest.
Supermarket Deals 🥗
Nearby supermarkets offer budget-friendly meal deals ranging from £3-£5. This includes shops like Co-op, Morrisons and ASDA, as well as Tesco's and Sainsbury's, but those two are a bit more expensive.
Here are some loyalty cards we recommend getting to make the most of supermarket deals:
