How to stay safe and safely dispose

If you choose to smoke in a designated smoking area, then there are a few things you need to keep in mind. Overall it's about making sure it's done safely and that after you've finished, any smoking materials are disposed of properly. This goes for disposable e-cigarettes (vapes) too, as there's an easy way to do it and we're here to tell you how!

How to dispose of cigarettes

Ensure any cigarettes, are extinguished in external ashtrays (you'll find these in the designated smoking areas) and then put into a bin. Extinguishing/chucking cigarettes on the floor or on any Sanctuary Student's property will only lead to a mess, a potential fire hazard or even fines - so it's really not worth it. Do it the right way and keep yourself and everyone else at your accommodations safe.

How to dispose of vapes

Did you know that once your disposable vape runs out, it needs to be tossed out the right way? It’s super important not to just chuck it in your regular bin. Why? Well, vapes can leak harmful battery acid and nicotine, which isn't great for our planet. Plus, those lithium-ion batteries are a fire hazard if they end up in your accommodation or a landfill.

The easiest and safest way to say goodbye to a used disposable vape is by dropping it into a vape disposal bin or handing it back to a shop. Loads of electronic stores happily take these back and will make sure they get recycled properly. You can also take them to most Household Waste Recycling Centres along with other electronic waste.
