The UK isn't exactly renowned for its culinary excellence compared to other countries in the world, but we do have some of the tastiest snacks.

Some have reached all four corners of the globe, whereas others haven't even left the island. Whatever their international success, they're a part of British culture, so you just have to try them whilst you're here!

We've whittled our favourites down to just ten. Check them out below! 

Jaffa Cakes

Is it a cake or is it a biscuit? Well, it's a biscuit actually. Confusing, right? One thing's for sure - it tastes amazing! A spongey bottom with a layer of orange jelly topped with delicious chocolate, it's an achievement if you don't eat the whole packet! 

Pork pie 

A pork pie is a classic savoury snack in the UK. It's made with a chunk of pork, pork fat and a layer of jellied pork stock. A pork pie is a welcome addition to any summer's day picnic. 

Walkers crisps

Walkers originate from Leicester, England. You might know Walkers crisps as Lays in your native country, but Walkers are the originals. The crisps come in lots of different flavours, so why not grab yourself a multipack from the supermarket? 

Pot noodle

Every Brit will have had a Pot Noodle in their lifetime, so it's only right for you to dip your toes in the instant noodle goodness. Pot Noodles are perfect for a quick and easy lunch and come in a range of flavours, so you should find at least one that tickles your fancy. 

Beans on toast

Beans on toast is a rite of passage for anyone living in the UK. It's a great low-cost and simple meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or even if you're peckish in-between meals. All you need to buy is a tin of beans, a loaf of bread and some butter. BOSH! 

Custard creams

One of the best biscuits about. If you're having a cup of tea, you have to have a custard cream with it for the ultimate combo. Try dipping it in the tea for a taste sensation! 

Cadbury's Dairy Milk

Cadbury is the world's second biggest confectionery brand, behind Mars. In the UK it's the leading manufacturer of chocolate, and the Dairy Milk is its flagship product, so if you're a fan of milk chocolate this is the first bar you should get your teeth into. Cadbury have lots of other delicious types of chocolate too if you prefer something different. 

Crumpets

There's only one way to eat a crumpet - toasted and drowning in butter. Crumpets are a great option for breakfast or as a snack, just make sure to mop up all the butter that's fallen through the holes!

Jam and scones

Jam and scones are a traditional English snack. To build them yourself, buy some plain scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream. For a true British experience, why not go for a sophisticated afternoon tea

Sausage rolls

Succulent sausages wrapped in puff pastry. What's not to like? Your bog standard sausage rolls can be bought in most supermarkets, but you'll find fancier ones with various extra fillings in cafés up and down the country. Don't forget the sausage roll from Greggs - the UK's national treasure.
