You're almost at the end of your university journey. It can be tough to realise that you won't see our friends and flatmates every day. That doesn't mean you can't maintain a friendship with them, though!
Here are a few things you can do to stay connected to each other:
Make new traditions
If your hometowns are quite far apart, you could try to make digital traditions.
🍿 Watch movies: This is a good one if you're used to watching TV shows and movies together. You can both stream it at the same time and even choose a designated night.
🍳 Virtual cooking: Cook the same recipe together over FaceTime and have a catch-up. You could even make the same meal or send each other a list of ingredients to get and have a cook-off.
🎮 Gaming night: Start a Discord together and play your favourite games or even try some new ones and have a laugh.
👯♂️ 'Body double' each other: If you're used to sitting on your mate's bed while they clean their room, FaceTime each other instead when doing tasks around the house. You'll probably feel more motivated to get things done, the time will go faster, and you can have a quick check-in with each other at the same time.
Little Connections
You don't need a 2-hour phone call every day just to stay close to each other. Small, daily check-ins keep you in each other's lives just as much, and sometimes they mean more.
- Share content: Send TikToks, Instagram reels or other things to each other. Something that can brighten up your days and make you both laugh when you're missing each other.
- Low-pressure voice notes: Send quick updates to each other whilst you're having your breakfast, or walking to the shops.
- Share playlists: Create a Spotify playlist together of songs that remind you of each other, or maybe specific songs you share from uni memories. Spotify also has a feature where you can blend your current music together, which is nice to see what the other person is listening to.
It's important to keep in mind that when everyone leaves university, they might be going back to/starting new jobs or prioritising family, so not everyone might reply straight away. But don't put that on yourself, life just gets a bit busy after graduation!
