Games night with my flat

Rolled the dice on hosting a games night and got a six!

The other day I downloaded Scrabble on my phone. My scrolling habits had gone from bad to worse. This was my attempt to build a healthy relationship with my phone. When I got bored after 2 rounds of online Scrabble, I thought back to the good old days. I used to love board games and could play them for hours! I remembered my flatmate had told me that she had a snakes-and-ladder board. This was during our first flat meeting. We had bonded over our shared nostalgia for playing the game on family holidays. I took a shot in the dark and decided to knock on her door. She was also having a boring night, so we decided to sit down together and play a game of snakes and ladders. One game turned into two and two into many more.

Making use of the communal games

I had a great night with my flatmate. The day after, we were discussing our game night in the kitchen. Our other flatmates joined in the conversation, and we decided to hold a flat game night. There was a monopoly board in our accommodation’s common area so that was our game of choice. The flat game night turned out to be an even bigger success than my private game night with my flatmate. We gathered in the kitchen at 7 p.m. It was a Friday night, so some people were heading out in a few hours. We started playing and, since it was Monopoly, after all, things started heating up fast. People were buying properties, losing money, and overall, having a big laugh. We decided to order pizza at about 9 p.m. The temptation of a warm cheesy pizza was enough to make the extroverts cancel their plans. We had a great night with lots of food and chatter. It was also way more fun becoming bankrupt after a game of Monopoly instead of after a night out.

Movies and Scrabble

Board games are an excellent way to bond with your flatmates. They help you create a social atmosphere in your living space without spending any money! These games can be tailored to suit different skill levels and group sizes. Some games are more competitive while others are more cooperative, allowing you to work together towards a common goal. Movie night is another way to bond with your flatmates without spending any money. It also lets you share your interests with one another and even find common interests.

When I went to return the Monopoly board to the common room, I found a physical version of Scrabble. I was overtaken by nostalgia, and I decided to pick up the box and take it to our kitchen. I dropped a message on our flat group chat, asking if anybody wanted to join me for a game. It was a Wednesday afternoon so only one person was home. To my delight, she joined me in the kitchen. We started a riveting game of Scrabble, which definitely went on for more than two rounds.

Try arranging a games night with your own flatmates! You'll have lots of fun just like we did and it will bring everyone closer together.
